Age verification is now responsibility of App stores according to Utah Law

The Utah government specially gave a new law which ensures that age verification is solely the responsibility of App stores. Meta apps, X and Snapchat are in support of the new bill but Google and Apple are against the latest Law.

The app store will face legal challenges because it is going to act on the app store accountability rules act. The act has a name of S.B.142. Google and Apple are fighting over this because both of them do not want to pay the consequences.

However, meta thinks that this is the App Store’s responsibility to confirm the age from the users. On the other hand both tech giants have an app store and play store, they argue that this responsibility falls on the company who makes the products. Because at the end it is the company who is offering its product to certain users so they should keep track of the ages.

There are other states that think the legislation behind age verification should become legal. But Utah is the only one who acted upon it firstly.

Prior to the law passing the Apple App Store made some new changes to its age verification rules. Apparently this is a new set of safety rules which will check child safety. There will be a system which will ensure age checking. According to this software the developers of the apps will select certain age members to use the app if parents allow it.

The system will require the users to explain their experiences with the app according to their age and upon that basis the app developers will determine the age of certain fellows.

Apple on its own will not go through such a headache but however it is enabling the app developers to determine such factors. The age will not be verified on the time of download but the app developers themselves will determine the age on the time of developing.

On the other hand, the social media developers and app makers are glad at Utah’s decision. Because the age verification responsibility falls on the App Store and not on them. It is making their load much easier.

In the US many states are announcing app legislation. So the users cannot miss use any app et cetera.

Conclusion

All in all this idea seems perfect because we don’t know what kind of users are downloading the apps. If minors are downloading and getting access to certain apps such as social media they can easily lie about their age upon making new accounts on Google or any other email making app. This ensures no minors will get access to certain apps.
