God In Shame(Last post book review of Rabindranath tagore)

I wanted to make the most of this last post related to book review “Letters to Friend”.

“Jallinwala Bagh” incident mentioned in book convinced me to imagine how the sensitive poet must had gone through tough time of handling such a big cruelty on humanity.

Tagore restored his mental health after renunciation of his knighthood honour as a protest. His words

They hated and killed, and men praised them,But God in shame hastened to hide its memory under the green grass.

This short documentary on you tube will explain more about Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar now is one of famous Tourist place in detail:

The game of atrocity will colour the eyes red to watch its glory and the shining sun will not leave a single wound unnoticed. We tend not to forget the day, feel the intense dance of peace bell, allowing rising tension to accept the friendship of silence.

To walk together in harmony,to draft the dream of freedom, still so many songs are waiting to dance in rythmn with letters of blissfullness.

This small attempt to backtrack mind to feel the level of intensity has surely filled with pearls of emotions for which,I will always be grateful to such a Great Writer Shri Rabindranath Tagore.

Tagore’s close association with life’s consciousness seems to be pouring so much thoughts related to easiness/simplicity of life that we need to ponder upon. His clarity of thoughts draws picture in my mind that he is unlocking the gates of joys with full consideration which is beautifully explained starting from page number 78 till 80.

“I long to discover some fairy-land of holidays-not a world where all weekdays are Sundays-but where Sundays are not at all needed, where all duties look delightfully undutiful like clouds bearing rain, appearing perfectly in consequential.”

“Come Out,come away”

When I sit in the morning outside on the deck of my boat, before the majestic purple of the mountains crowned with the morning light,I know that I am eternal that I am ananda-rupam.

My true form is not that of flesh and blood, but of joy.In the world where we habitually live, the self is so predominant that everything in it is of our own making and we starve because we have to feed upon ourselves. To know the truth is to become true;there is no other way. When we live the life of self,it is not possible for us to realize truth.

“Come out, come away.” This is the urgent cry we have in our soul-the cry in the blood of the chick, living in its shell.

These lines are from the book “Letters to Friend” by Rabindranath Tagore from page no 71 when he was in Srinagar Kashmir(October 1915).I don’t have any words or story to take a dig ,just a prevailing silence and willing to share with the readers.

Feeling Blessed to be part of such a old Book(Letters to Friend)

This book is very old and Tagore’s hand writing along with an old stamp is absolute bonus ,feeling so lucky to borrow from the local library.

I must say this book is deep work of consciousness. The writer’s acceptance of his inner and outer world with full grace, glorified situations on positive note every single time, with his all time favourite companionship of nature. So far I have read only around 40 pages but I can feel an intense stillness which made its path through acceptance and deep realisation of life. Before the actual chapters begin, there is an essay on personality of Tagore gives insight how he found his bonding with nature in its fullest expression. These lines showcases, how he witnessed silently

“Sometimes I would pass many months alone without speaking ,till the voice grew thin & weak due to lack of use”.

The essay summarises influencing factors and how Tagore’s consciousness progressed towards using literature for country’s well-being resulted in opening a school in the lap of nature named as “Shantiniketan”.This video gives a good presentation of the place’s art work with Bengali language in the background.

This line touched me“I know that I must pass through death.God Knows it is the death-pang that is tearing open my heart”.Tagore had given death a liberating and an eternal truth face, clearly reflects how much he was in pain when surrounded by death of family members. As an artist,he took death as clay and moulded completely into a different shape.

I completely feel that I would be hunting lots of words to do full justice with the book review in the next post.
